Great Moments in Axl History: #33

#33 Axl vs. Kurt Cobain (also known as: Shut your bitch up or I'll knock her to the pavement)

Our leader has had many antagonists over the years, but his arch-nemesis came in the form of one Kurt Cobain. While the two men were similar in many ways: both troubled lead singers of bigger-than-life bands with a bit of the batshit going on, they were polar opposites in the respect that while Axl was loving the fame and fortune of rockstar life complete with extravagant parties, a huge stage show including a horn section, and a supermodel girlfriend (The Evil Stephanie Seymour!!), Kurt struggled with his newfound fame and preferred to be miserable (how else can you explain marrying and procreating with Courtney Love?). Of course, the two were bound to clash eventually.

Kurt initially pissed off Axl when he dissed him after Axl's request to meet him after a show. Then Nirvana turned down an offer to join the Guns N' Roses/Metallica stadium tour in the summer of 1992. Axl was not pleased.

Everything came to head later that year at (where else?) the MTV Video Music Awards (are you understanding why MTV sucks now?). Both Guns N' Roses and Nirvana were there to perform. There was a little downtime in the backstage lot where both singers were hanging out with their ladies, which of course is a recipe for awesomeness like this:
Courtney (to Axl): "Do you want to be godfather to our daughter?"

The Evil Stephanie Seymour (sweetly): "Are you a model?" (Do you see? She's evil! Ok, that was pretty awesome)

Courtney: "Are you a brain surgeon?" (oh snap!)

Axl (to Kurt): "Shut your bitch up or I'll knock her to the pavement."

And Scene.

(This account is according to an eyewitness )

Later that evening when Nirvana took the stage, bassist Krist Novoselic taunted Axl by yelling his name. He was later shut up by his bass.

This prompted telejournalist extraordinaire, Kurt Loder to comment on the night's events (another reason why MTV sucks now, no Kurt Loder!):

Kurt later asked (the other) Kurt to explain his version of events:

Sadly, nothing more ever came of the feud after that evening. Seems Loder was right about the incident blowing over. He was more right than even he knew at the time about stuff blowing over (if you took that as a Kurt blowing his head off joke, that's your own sick mind at work).

We now leave you with a musical adaptation of the aforementioned events by some guy on YouTube:

Where in the world is Kurt Cobain?

Courtney Love is reportedly "suicidal" after Kurt Cobain's ashes were stolen from her home in LA after a break-in last month.

She kept Kurt's ashes, along with a lock of his hair in a pink bag shaped like a teddy bear.

Courtney said,
"I can't believe anyone would take Kurt's ashes from me. I find it disgusting right now I'm suicidal. If I don't get them back I don't know what I'll do. They were all I had left of my husband. I used to take them everywhere with me just so I could feel Kurt was still with me. Now it feels like I have lost him all over again."

So when she says suicidal, does she mean she would kill herself or that she would make it look like she killed herself?

So far, no sign of Kurt's ashes on ebay.

Just Say No to drugs kids

Seriously.

This is almost as bad as that public service message with the lady that started out pretty and got uglier and uglier and took her teeth out at the end.

"My dead husband ain't wearing your outdated shoes!"

"Why can't you just leave me alone? I hate being famous and now it's worse than when I was alive!"

Courtney Love is pissed at Dr. Martens shoes because of this advertisement that features Kurt Cobain sitting in on a cloud in heaven adorned in the roach stompers.

Her rep said to PEOPLE:"Courtney had no idea this was taking place and would never have approved such a use. She thinks it's outrageous that a company is allowed to commercially gain from such a despicable use of her husband's picture. It does appear that in the UK what Dr. Martens has done is allowed. Courtney did not, and would not, approve of such a use of Kurt's name and likeness."

The ad is part of a campaign featuring several dead rock stars, including Sid Vicious from The Sex Pistols and Joey Ramone from The Ramones.

Dr. Martens's U.S. office did not immediately return calls to PEOPLE.

Me thinks she's more pissed off that she isn't getting a piece more than the fact that it's in bad taste.

I had no idea they still even made Dr. Martens. I think the last time I saw someone wearing a pair was around 1996. I never wore them personally. I got the real shit--combat boots from the army/navy store. (Holla Kate!) Yeah, we were badass. Or assbad. One of those.

Abs of Styrofoam!

The lesson is: Do a damn crunch instead of having a doctor stick a fat-sucker in your gut. Sure, you have to get up off your drunk ass, but you won't look deformed and it's free!

Zoltar is two-for-two!

Ok, I will admit it was Zoltar again who told me that Courtney Love's offer to replace Paula Abdul on American Idol was the result of a prankcall.

Nigel Lythgoe said in a statement yesterday:
"I did not call Courtney Love and am afraid someone may have misrepresented me. Courtney Love is a very talented artist, but the judges for American Idol are Paula, Randy and Simon. We have no plans to add to or replace any of them."

After learning of Lythgoe's denial on Wednesday, Love told Us Weekly it was possible she was duped by a prank caller.

Here's what the ever eloquent Courtney had to say on her website:

" This kerfuffle is NONSENSE, i said to a friend who obviously passed igt on the wrong way that it was awierdly brilliant PRANK CALL, if it was NOT a prank call i woul dnever ever do that, ive never watche dthat show except once with my daughter i went to the final night, I couldnt even get ON that show nor would i wantt o and no offense to anyone who has been on that show and wantsto be on that show- i have no interest at this point in my life, im interested in putting this record out- doing films and doiung rock shows this summer and being on the road, and thats what i shall do. US misrepresented and misquoted me and nothing i said was ever meant for any publication. I didnt kn ow it wa sgoing to be a big deal but then again ive been very busy and id ont exactly pay attention to pop culture and id ont read tabloids and idont have a google alert i find lofe fAr easier without those things, good reviews are great biut baqd ones suck and its best to nopt read them at all, i like how Ben Kingsley hasnt readhis own press in 2w0 some years, and i aspire to that- last time i read my press was a Brit piece that had me in bed for three dayus and is wor eoff reading my own press after that, of ocuerse i needmy publicist to tell me who to speak to and who nit to but my days of speaking directly to editors etc are behind me- i was followed by paparazzi all day today and have had to get armed security for the evening so we can have some privacy die to that dumb piece wich is ourt of prder an dout of context its TOTALLY RANDOM "

Simon, Randy, and Courtney?

Courtney Love recently revealed to her Usmagazine.com ' that Idol's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called her office last week inquiring into whether she would be interested in sitting in as a judge on the hit FOX show.

"He called," Love tells Usmagazine.com. "He was wondering if I was interested. I thought it was kind of weird but brilliant." '

Courtney was hush-hush about any further details.

Supposedly one of those pesky "sources" scooped to Usmagazine.com that Lythgoe was considering hiring Love to "replace Paula."

American Idol reps could not immediately be reached for comment.

So what, Paula isn't crazy enough? They want an actual murderer? Someone with even less vocal talent (she is a great songwriter though)? My guess is someone prankcalled Courtney. I can imagine it wouldn't be hard to do.

Hitting that Hole again Billy?

Courtney Love and Billy Corgan attended the premiere of "Freedom Writers" together last night. Wonder if they are back together. If so, I feel sorry for their neighbors. Could you imagine what it sounds like when they have sex? All the growling (her) and the high-pitched whining (him).
